QUIET STEEL®
MSC Engineered Materials and Solutions Group's core
business centers on our proprietary continuous coil
coating and constrained layer laminating processes.
Quiet Steel® is one of our unique families of Noise,
Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) damping materials and
can be provided as continuous coil or in blanked sheets.
Each material is designed specifically to meet the damping,
temperature, stiffness and operating environment needs
of its intended vehicle component.
MSC can also Electrogalvanize Quiet Steel® for corrosion
protection or apply a variety of coatings from forming
lubricants to pre-paint. Quiet Steel® is currently used
at GM, Ford and DaimlerChrysler for a variety of brake,
powertrain, and body structure applications. Various
versions of Quiet Steel® are currently used in thirteen
North American stamping facilities and welded in eight
OEM body shops.
In today's relentless pursuit of lower costs and increased
performance, Quiet Steel® has been especially well
received by the automotive engineering community. On
one dash panel application, Quiet Steel® saved $9 per
vehicle and eliminated six extra pounds. Let MSC show
you how to use Quiet Steel® to:
Reduce vehicle costs
Reduce mass
Improve NVH performance
Improve quality
Reduce build variation
Streamline assembly
QUIET SHIELD®
Quiet Shield® is a damped laminate material
that provides both thermal protection and Noise, Vibration,
and Harshness (NVH) benefits. The Quiet Shield®
suite of materials use a wide variety of core materials
that can resist and/or spread heat. Each core layer
is engineered to meet specific temperature drop and
NVH requirements. MSC's goal is to provide an all-in-one
material that offers both heat shield and vibration
damping characteristics.
