SOUND TRAP
MSC Engineered Materials and Solutions Group's core
business centers on our proprietary continuous coil
coating and constrained layer laminating processes.
Sound Trap is one of our unique families of materials,
produced as continuous coil, sheet or finished component,
to reduce vibration.
Sound Trap composite material comprises two or
more metallic substrate layers surrounding an engineered
viscoelastic core. Micro-shear deformation of the viscoelastic
core dissipates the resonant vibrational energy present,
thus making Sound Trap a highly effective damping
material solution. This damping is quantitatively measured
by the Composite Loss Factor. Simply, the higher the
loss factor, the greater the material's ability to damp
vibration.
SOUND TRAP AD
The Sound Trap AD product is an add-on damping
material, with a PSA (pressure-sensitive adhesive) backing
affixed.
MAGNA DAMP
For environments where PSA's are impractical or create
bottlenecks in the assembly process, MSC's Engineered
Materials and Solutions Group has developed a constrained
layer damping material with a magnetized substrate.
This magnetic damping material was developed for a major
white goods manufacturer, seeking to quiet its high-end
range of products without adding excessive material
and manufacturing costs. Magna Damp was the solution.
THERMALCORE®
This high thermal conductivity material can be used
for heat dissipation, thermal resistivity and heat insulation
applications. Thermalcore® is a constrained layer
material, comprising various substrates bonded by the
proprietary continuous lamination processes of MSC.
Core protection to 3000ƒF (1632ƒC) is achievable. Thermalcore®
also provides excellent acoustic barrier properties.
